A Partnership Approach
Partnerships – here defined as a closer form of business collaboration – is a main focus in the SUSBIZ concept.
The organisations behind the SUSBIZ concept believe that a great potential for increasing CSR and business performance in developing country companies lies in promoting mutual understanding between these companies and companies at other levels of the global value chains that connect the companies to each other.
Mutual understanding enables companies to establish and communicate CSR requirements which are appropriate to their business partners, and it enables companies to show concern for their business partners’ context in CSR matters as well as in general business matters. For instance, the way buyers place their orders can have significant impacts on suppliers’ potential to plan production and avoid excessive overtime, contributing positively to improved CSR performance and productivity.
In order to identify and design CSR activities with a strategic potential, dialogue within the company and with actors within the company’s sphere of influence is a necessity. By facilitating dialogue and closer collaboration between business partners at different levels of global value chains, the concept promotes mutual understanding in relation to the business partners’ markets, products, strategies, stakeholders and CSR challenges and potentials.
